Attribution and Authorship

NextGen Biomedical Informatics Center (BMI) Authorship and

Acknowledgement Guidelines

These guidelines aim to ensure proper recognition of contributions made by the NextGen Biomedical Informatics Center (BMI) and its personnel to scientific research projects. All manuscripts, presentations, and posters resulting from work that receives support  from the BMI must acknowledge the center’s assistance. Additionally, any substantial contributions by BMI personnel should be recognized through co-authorship or formal mention in the acknowledgements section. Authorship and acknowledgement expectations should be established at the beginning of the project to ensure transparency and mutual understanding.

Authorship

Authorship should be granted if an individual contributes substantially to the research project, for example:

  1. Significant involvement in the conception and design of the project.
  2. Contribution to data collection, analysis, and interpretation beyond routine practices.
  3. Participation in drafting, revising, and critically reviewing the manuscript.
  4. Final approval of the version to be published.

If you used REDCap or i2b2, please cite their authors.

Acknowledgement

Acknowledgements should be given to individuals who have contributed to the project but do not meet the criteria for authorship. For example:

  1. Providing essential technical assistance.
  2. Involving in data collection but without engaging in its analysis or interpretation.
  3. Offering administrative help and logistical support.
  4. Proofreading the manuscript.

Suggested Acknowledgements statements:

  1. We thank the NextGen Biomedical Informatics Center (BMI) for their (technical, administrative, etc.) support.
  2. Our sincere thanks to the NextGen Biomedical Informatics Center (BMI) for their administrative support and coordination throughout the project.
  3. This research was conducted with the support of the NextGen Biomedical Informatics Center (BMI).
  4. We acknowledge the support from the NextGen Biomedical Informatics Center (BMI).
If you used informatics services (e.g.: REDCap, NextGen Outback, GPC and PCORnet) or consultation was used for the research described in your manuscript, please contact us regarding appropriate attribution of grant support (e.g.: Greater Plains Collaborative contract, NIH Clinical and Translational Science awards).
